VEEC x Weequahic High School
Empowering Newark students to lead community health from the inside out.
What Is Project 07112?
Project 07112 is a community-rooted partnership between the Vaccine Equity Education Coalition (VEEC), Weequahic High School (WHS), and Newark Public Schools. Named after the ZIP code it serves, Project 07112 honors the strength, creativity, and resilience of Newark’s South Ward by empowering high school students to become public health leaders in their own neighborhoods.
Through health education, youth-led research, and storytelling, students are trained as Ambassadors to lead vaccine confidence campaigns and reimagine what community health looks like — from the inside out.
Why It Matters
The 07112 ZIP code has historically faced health disparities and limited access to preventive care. Students and families in this community are the experts of their lived experience and powerful agents for change. Project 07112 builds a pipeline for youth to lead efforts around vaccine equity, chronic disease prevention, and trust-building in public health.
What Students Do

👉 Participate in a 5-week summer academy blending health education, public speaking, research, and advocacy
👉 Work in teams to investigate health challenges and design community-driven campaigns
👉 Engage with Rutgers faculty, VEEC Fellows, and public health professionals
👉 Present final projects during a culminating Health Event on July 31, 2025, marking the launch of National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM)
